It often happens on Facebook that while sharing anything, Facebook picks up the outdated or may be previous information about that site. It also happens often that Facebook doesn’t even pick up certain information about any site. For example:-
While creating this article I got an idea that i will try to share the two url’s of this blog on Facebook that is www.bloggerzbible.blogspot.com and www.bloggerzbible.com and see what is the result. I was really amazed on seeing the result but was not surprised. See yourself.
When I shared the older address www.bloggerzbible.blogspot.com then Facebook shared the information which I earlier defined on my blog using meta tags.
But when I tried to share www.bloggerzbible.com it showed
So as you can see the blog is the same but Facebook is sharing different descriptions.This can happen to you too. I’m not talking about only those who have blogger hosted blog’s but all the websites. Above was just an example.
What are the general problem’s while sharing
- Facebook’s shares previous or outdated information.
- Picks up wrong thumbnail from you site
- Doesn’t pick up the description.
- Picks up wrong title or previous title.
- For video’s haring sites doesn’t pick the flash file.
What’s the solution
There is one solution to all these problem’s within facebook. Its a tool called URL Linter. This service updates every information about the site. Got to URL Linter and paste your URL for which you want the information to be updated. Click lint and the result will be in front of you.
To check whether the information is right just use the facebook general sharing url:-
http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=URL THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE
And see the result. One thing I must suggest you that before using the above tool check what information is Facebook sharing using the above url afterwards use the URL LINTER. And also check whether you site has the necessary META TAGS (Basic tags) required for sharing content on Facebook.
